This is a seminal piece for me. Hummingbirds have long been one of my favorite images and over the last 40 years I have strived for a particular internal reaction. This piece met every single criterion I had in place. The bird is spot on, the feathering effects are perfect, the separation of the bird from the background is 99% flawless. And then there’s the reflective quality of the entire piece. It does absolutely glisten. As a piece of jewelry its shape and its edges are just right. There is nothing I don’t like other than it setting a new standard for all my work. This will always be in the top ten pieces I ever make. A remarkable piece of work. For me it proves mastery as both a goldsmith and a chaser.
